Great BBQ!

On Tuesday, I held a very successful Canada Day BBQ. I was joined by Bob Rae and hundreds of friends and community members. The weather was wonderful and the various kids’ activities and food brought out the people in our riding to exchange good wishes on Canada Day.
I had the opportunity to personally speak with many people about a wide range of issues. What I find most gratifying about these events is the ability to personally touch base with Canadians from all backgrounds, to listen to them and to be reminded of our most valuable asset as a country, our amazing people.
The amount of talent and ideas that I came across during that gathering was very humbling and exciting. Even the idealistic or impractical ideas were invigorating and motivating.
As a Member of Parliament, it is my job to be aware of the challenges and opportunities that our citizens face and to find solutions that take into account all of those diverse and competing simultaneous needs. It is critical to maintain a broad vision for the collective well being, but also to remain aware of individual aspirations and dreams. That is what Canadians expect and deserve from their political leaders. They expect hard work and they deserve honesty.
While such events can be tiring, I am usually energized after speaking with so many members of our community. I am often reminded of how much work is ahead of us, but they also reaffirm my faith in our ability as a nation to get that work done.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Bob Rae for being with us. His presence was warmly welcomed by our guests and I know that many enjoyed chatting with him. I also want to express my deep appreciation to my staff and the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone had a great time.
To everyone who came out, it was great seeing you, and to the ones who couldn’t make it, I look forward to seeing you at my next gathering.
