Why Politics?
Text version of the why politics video:
Choosing to enter politics and run for office is a serious undertaking that requires a clear vision and rock solid determination. At the core of it is my desire to advance the well being of our nation and our citizens. Understandably, many Canadians are cynical and skeptical about politics. They feel that many politicians are indifferent or distant from the challenges they face in their daily lives. That is not healthy for our democracy nor our future. Our democracy needs engaged citizens who are empowered to define their destiny.
Few years ago, I never expected myself to be in this position. I was like most Canadians focused on my engineering and business career with occasional social activism. But my passion to improve the lives of my fellow human beings led me to the conclusion that unless citizens who are committed to the collective good are willing to fight for change and good policies, that change will be hard to come by.
Politics is not a game to be played by the few, it is an instrument that should be accessible to all for improving the lives of Canadians and promoting sound policies.
For me, I found a home in the Liberal Party; an institution that has always managed to bring idealism and pragmatism together. A party that is known for uniting our country, achieving economic prosperity and advancing social justice.
I am running because I have been inspired by the everyday Canadian spirit that is filled with hope and determination. But In order to achieve our goals, all Canadians must feel that they have a stake in the political process. Together we have to defeat apathy and ensure that we have a say in shaping our future.
I have always lived by this motto: In life we have two primary choices: to accept conditions as they exist or to accept the responsibility for changing them. I am inviting you to join me in accepting our responsibility for advancing change.
